Case Study –
T. Walters, Circle C, Austin, TX
We were contacted by Ms. Walters after an attorney living in the same neighborhood referred us to her for a roof leak adjacent to her chimney following a hail event. Upon examination it was discovered that in addition to the leak, the roof also had damage due to hail. We advised her to call her insurance company and ask for an adjuster to come out. When the adjuster arrived he was not physically able to climb on the roof so he had “a roofer” with him to go up and inspect the roof. The roofer told the adjuster (representing the homeowner’s insurance company) that there was “no hail damage”. The adjuster then advised the homeowner to have bids taken for painting the water damage inside the house from the leak.
Because we had fully examined the roof and determined that damage was present, we advised Ms. Walters to ask for a re-inspection on a day and time when we could go up on the roof with the adjuster. Her insurance adjuster said, “no” – that her roofer needed to send in an estimate indicating the amount of “alleged damage”. We did. We were also asked to mark with chalk the damage and photograph it and send it in to them, which we also did.
The insurance office sent out a different adjuster to meet with us on the roof. On the day of re-inspection severe storms were close and prompted the adjuster to go up on the roof early without us. Upon our arrival, the adjuster was back on the ground and was writing his notes. When asked if he was ready to go up and inspect he said he was finished and would be totaling the roof for full replacement due to hail damage and that he had used our markings and they were a big help to him.
Ms. Walters’ own insurance company denied her a new roof based upon the opinion of the other roofer. Having her own Certified roofing company looking out for her best interest, she was able to get a new roof. Certified Roof Inspectors are highly trained and use educational standards in their review that most roofing companies are not aware exist.
Comment: This is only one of many roofs we have been successful in getting totaled after an adjuster previously denied. At 1st Capital Certified Roofing & Gutters… we work for you!
